Originally from the Dominican Republic and raised in Miami, Florida, Sugely "Sue" Melenciano-Weed brings a personal story rooted in resilience, cultural identity, and a deep commitment to community. She holds an Associate's degree in Business Administration from Borough of Manhattan Community College and a Bachelor's degree in Human Services from the University of Connecticut.
A proud mother of two adult sons and two foster daughters, Sue's passion for empowering others is not just professional—it is personal. Her career has spanned education, business, and the nonprofit sector, each chapter deepening her understanding of what communities need to thrive.
Current Role and Areas of Expertise
Sue currently serves as Youth Bureau Director for Ulster County, where she leads the county's efforts to strengthen and coordinate youth-serving programs and systems. She also sits on the Boards of UlsterCorps and Health Care is a Human Right, reflecting a commitment to civic leadership that extends well beyond any single organization.
Her expertise spans youth policy, workforce development, community needs assessment, and nonprofit governance—making her uniquely positioned to serve as a connector between institutions and the communities they exist to serve.
Strengthening THRIVE ON!'s Connection to Ulster County
As the Ulster County Youth Bureau Representative on the THRIVE ON! Board, Sue will serve as a vital liaison between the Youth Bureau and the organization, ensuring alignment, coordination, and a clear line of sight to the youth policy and workforce development landscape across the county.
