From Pilot to Permanent
Since its soft launch in 2024, the PonckHockie Market has:
Served more than 500 families in less than a year.
Hosted a June Block Party that brought together 300+ families, local vendors, and resource partners.
Introduced income-based pricing and cultural theme months, with proceeds supporting nonprofits like the African Burial Ground.
Now, THRIVE ON! is moving from a parking-lot pilot to building a permanent home for the market—one that will provide year-round food access and community programming in Kingston’s PonckHockie neighborhood.
Why It Matters
PonckHockie has long been recognized as a food desert, with limited access to fresh, affordable groceries. The new market will:
Provide consistent, healthy food options for families.
Create a hub for youth leadership and employment through THRIVE ON!’s Early Thrivers program.
Serve as a platform for local vendors and nonprofits to engage directly with the community.
